Dahua IP Camera Default Password, Login and Reset Guide

A modern Dahua IP camera does not have one universal default password. On cameras that require initialization, the usual administrator username is admin, and the password is the one created during setup. If someone installed the camera for you, ask that installer or the system owner for the camera credentials. A forgotten password normally needs an approved reset; ConfigTool is not a password viewer.

What is the Dahua IP camera default password?

Dahua introduced mandatory password initialization in its newer camera firmware. At first use, you create a password instead of signing in with a shared factory password. Old instructions recommending admin/admin or a blank password should not be treated as a rule for current cameras. For a legacy model, check its exact model and firmware manual.

If the screen says Uninitialized, follow the initialization wizard and create the administrator password. Add a recovery email you control when that option is offered. If the camera is already initialized, use its existing password or the supported recovery method below. See Dahua’s initialization and password reset notice and camera setup example.

How to recover access to a Dahua IP camera

Use these options for a camera you own or are authorized to administer. Identify its model and firmware first: the available recovery methods differ between devices.

1. Use the configured recovery email and DMSS

If email recovery was enabled during setup, select Forgot password on the supported camera login screen. Follow its QR-code recovery instructions using DMSS and the previously registered email account. Enter the received security code and create a new password. This option depends on the camera’s supported recovery process and access to that email; it is not available merely because you install DMSS. Follow the official IP camera DMSS reset guide.

2. Use ConfigTool and Dahua support

Connect a computer with Dahua ConfigTool to the camera’s local network. In Password Reset, select the camera and check which reset methods it supports. On models offering XML recovery, export the reset file and contact Dahua technical support for the corresponding result file. Import the returned file through ConfigTool, then set the new password. ConfigTool does not reveal the old password. The Dahua ConfigTool XML reset instructions show that workflow.

3. Check the model’s physical reset procedure

Many Dahua IP cameras have a reset button, but its location and required procedure vary. Consult the exact model’s product manual before opening a housing or resetting the unit. A factory reset can remove configuration and require the camera to be set up again. Do not assume it restores an admin password or follow a generic battery-removal procedure. Dahua’s password reset options direct users to model-specific instructions.

Why does the password still fail?

  • Camera versus recorder: confirm whether you are signing in to the camera itself or an NVR/DVR. Some Dahua recorder initialization workflows can synchronize a password to cameras, but do not assume every installation did. Ask the installer which credentials were assigned.
  • Second-hand camera: an already initialized device may retain the previous owner’s configuration. Ask for an authorized handover or use Dahua’s supported recovery process.
  • No recovery option: contact the original supplier or regional Dahua support with the model and relevant device details. The right next step depends on the device, firmware and available recovery methods.

After access is restored, record the new camera password securely and check that the recorder or management application uses the updated credentials. For recorder-specific initialization, see Dahua’s NVR and camera initialization guide.
