However, amidst these challenges, there is a glimmer of hope. The adoption of technology is playing a crucial role in helping businesses navigate the post-lockdown landscape, fostering optimism among respondents as they look toward recovery and innovation in the new normal.
Thermal imaging cameras
Thermal imaging cameras use infrared technology to detect heat, usually from the forehead, to estimate core body temperature. Unlike regular cameras, they capture heat instead of light. Normal body temperature is around 37°C (98.6°F), while 38°C or higher indicates a fever. When properly used, thermal cameras can measure surface skin temperature accurately without contact. However, temperature screening alone cannot detect COVID-19, as fever is just one of several symptoms like nausea, headaches, fatigue, and loss of taste or smell.
Though thermal cameras may not be fully effective in detecting the virus, they have increased industry confidence with targeted policy solutions. A vast majority of business professionals (90%) believe the government should implement thermal cameras post-lockdown. The main advantage is that operators don’t need to be near the person being screened, and thermal cameras measure surface skin temperature faster than thermometers that require close contact. This non-contact method enhances both safety and efficiency in temperature screening.
