Why Don’t People Buy Sony Smartphones?

Where Apple is considered the fashion brand and Samsung’s Galaxy range is considered the top dog for Android, also OnePlus, Asus, Sony x and Xiaomi have taken over the good cheap phones category… Sony seems to have lost somewhere in the competition.

Sony Mobile has earned practically ZERO % market shares for a couple of years now. We don’t know why people have lost interest in Sony x smartphones because these phones also have a unique bunch of other stuff that you won’t find on any other phone.

But all of these lead to one question… Why don’t people buy Sony Smartphones? And we think we have an answer for this. But first, just have a look at the modern-day Sony smartphone.

Sony Xperia 1 ii is one of the recently launched smartphones from Sony. One of the best things you will notice in the phone is its biggest display. Though having a 21×9 screen ratio, the phone feels more comfortable in the hand.

The phone also includes a headphone jack and a tool-less micro SD card and SIM card slot, features missing from many flagship phones today. One of the biggest surprises in the box is Sony’s world-class $350 headphones… completely free!

When it comes to cameras, Sony makes the sensors for all the best smartphones—Pixel, iPhone, and Samsung. That makes the Sony Xperia 1 II’s camera a technical masterpiece and arguably the best camera of the year.

Now, Sony phones let’s address the first question: “Why don’t more people buy this awesome phone?” Sony holds a small share of the overall smartphone market, and its sales don’t match those of larger companies.

suffer from issues similar to LG’s, including poor phone launches. For example, iPhones launch with high efficiency—they hold an event, allow pre-bookings the following week, and make the phones available everywhere in the market.

The Xperia 1 debuted in May 2020 but didn’t launch until October 2020. This delay is why people often avoid Sony smartphones. They prefer to buy phones shortly after their announcement when excitement is high.

It’s crazy that Sony makes such compelling phones but struggles with their execution. This lack of planning might explain why their sales have declined in recent years.

  1. I love how sleek and thin this phone is, and the camera does seem a pretty impressive piece of kit. I like that there are some easy to use filters and effects too. Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested
